Tanuki Raw - A beef bowl that you must try at Orchard Central
Tanuki Raw is a Japanese restaurant bar opened by the same people behind the popular Standing Sushi Bar. Over here they are well known for their happy hours promotion, where freshly shucked oysters are only at $2.00! Aside from this promotion, a dish called truffle yakiniku donburi has been making a name for itself recently and its time to check it out.
During happy hours for every alcoholic drinks purchased, fresh oysters are at $2.00 each while a portion of salmon sashimi costs $7.00. I was disappointed at the size of the oysters, as it wasn't plump at all. The salmon sashimi tastes fresh but it was surprisingly small too.
Generous slices of seared US black Angus short ribs on a bed of rice with furikake, onsen egg and drizzled with truffle soy-sauce over their signature mixed rice.
Even though I wasn't asked about my preferred beef done-ness, it was served the way I like it, medium rare to almost rare. The short ribs were perfect on its own, succulent and bursting with meat juices in every bite. The special rice had a texture resembling a combination of fried rice and brown rice, and after mixing the luscious egg yolk and the fragrant truffle soy-sauce, it tasted slightly salty, but every mouthful was filled with an intense umami.
