Restaurant Hoshigaoka - Brought to you by the people behind Jack's Place

Restaurant Hoshigaoka is brought to you by JP Pepperdine, the same owner behind the well known Jack's Place, Eatzi Gourmet and Kkongdon Barbeque. Specializing in traditional Japanese cuisine, we decided to head down to one of their three outlets located in Woodlands Civic Center.

SALMON SKIN ($3.90)
Even though I was expecting more of a crackling type of salmon skin, it was greasy and soaked in oil by the fishy flesh. Even though the mayonnaise did conceal the greasiness, it was still unpleasant overall.

SHOYU RAMEN ($12.90)
Looking pass the soggy seaweed presentation, the Ramen was actually quite decent with a light soothing Shoyu broth topped with refreshing crisp vegetables. However the pork belly stole the show with its fork tender or should I say "chopstick" tender succulent meat and soft layer of fat that disseminate in your mouth.

 CHIRASHI SUSHI ($16.90)
A bowl of sashimi on a bed of sushi rice with miso soup never goes wrong. Most of the Sashimi were fresh and delicious with a variation of Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish, Yellowtail and Squid. Decent accompaniment of sliced cucumbers, imitation crabsticks, tamago and roe.

Aside from the squid sashimi that had a unpleasant fishy aftertaste, the overall dish was alright.
